Rocco Vincent Nanno
September 26, 1922 - August 20, 2008
Rocco Vincent Nanno, 85, died Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Hospice Savannah with his dear friend at his side throughout the long struggle.
Rocco was born in Syracuse, New York, Onondaga County on September 26, 1922, son of the late Dominick and Philomena Melfi Nanno. Rocco and his wife, the late Dorothy T. Carter, settled in Savannah when Rocco retired from the U.S. Marine Corp as a gunnery Sgt. after 20 years. He took great pride in being a Marine and serving his country in both WWII and the Korean War. After his military career was over, Rocco took a job with the City of Savannah, retiring after 25 years as the Senior Buyer for the City. He was a devoted member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church where he served in the choir. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 184, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 660, former member and past president of the Purchasing Managers Association of Savannah, and lifetime member of the Savannah Volunteer Guards. Rocco will be remembered the most for his love of the Catholic faith and his devotion and love for his family. Additional deceased family members include sisters, Anna DeSalvio, Grace Bianco, Philomena Nanno and brother, Michael Nanno.
Rocco is survived by loving friend, Betty Roughen of Savananh; two sisters, Anna Terranova and her husband Joe of Syracuse, NY; Lucy Caravaggio of Randolph, NJ; and the following nieces, nephew and cousins, Lucille Esposito of Randolph, NJ., Edward Nanno and Michael Nanno of Syracuse, NY, Robert, Michael and Joann Terranova of Syracuse, NY, Lisa Pittelli of New Zealand, Lucille Engstrom of Los Angeles, CA, Robert Caravaggio of Livingston, NJ, Richard Bianco of North Syracuse, NY, Geraldine Guido of Syracuse, NY, Gerald DeSalvio and Joseph Desalvio of Tampa, FL.
Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 22, 2008 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel with a Christian Wake Service at 6:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. Pallbearers will be Danny Bostwick, Jimmy Bostwick, CJ Brownfield, Dillon Brownfield, Andrew Brownfield and Elliott Roughen.
Burial: Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Full Military Honors.
